Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel.

Very early this morning fly to Leh, which is unparalleled in its thrill and beauty. After sunrise views over the Himalaya, the final approach into Leh is a tight corkscrew, breezing past rugged mountain peaks on each turn lower into the valley, until you finally pass a lone monastery (Spituk Monastery) and land on the ‘lunar landscape’ of the Ladakhi Himalaya. At 11,000 feet you will feel the rush of clean, thin air. The day is free to acclimatize and take a walk into town, as you feel able.

Today enjoy a full day of sightseeing of Shey, and Thiksey and Hemis Monasteries. Shey houses a 7.5m-tall gilded statue of Buddha and the largest victory stupa with a golden top. Thiksey Gompa lies on the left side of this road to Hemis. Revel at the breathtaking views of Indus Valley from this gompa (monastery) that is one of the finest examples of Ladakhi architecture. Later drive to Leh via Hemis Monastery, the oldest, wealthiest and largest Gompa in Leh, which also houses beautiful paintings and stupas.

This morning drive to Likir. Begin your trek from Likir village, and after leaving behind the last house enter in an arid terrain. You will start ascending towards a small pass, and continue through villages, and over streams. Continue on in the valley before finally reaching the summit of Charatse-la (about 13,000 feet). If time permits, you can visit Rizong Monastery down the valley before reaching Yangthang. Eat dinner and spend the night in a mobile camp.

Today traverse Tsomangchen-la Pass (about 14,500 feet). From here enjoy a gradual descent to the village of Hemis Shukpachan, the biggest village en-route passing beautiful rustic houses, barley fields, bubbling streams, and two small monasteries. The name is derived form the small cedar grove on the far side of the village – Shukpa meaning cedar. Have dinner and spend the night in a mobile camp at Hemis Shukpachan

Trek to Timosgam crossing another small pass, a valley, and ascend to another pass, locally known as Lago La – literally meaning a pass of consequence. From here zig zag to a local village. Continue down the valley to a village with rose bushes, apricot orchards and rich barley fields. Freshen up here and proceed to Leh to check into your hotel.

Today, enjoy a full day to relax or you may wish to explore Phyang, Spitok Gompas and Stok Palace on your own. The beautiful statues and thankas (scroll paintings) at Phyang Gompa are definitely worth seeing. Spitok Gompa also has some interesting thankas, which are the pride of this monastery. Stok Palace Museum lies across the Indus River. The elegant four-story palace stands above barley terraces studded with threshing circles and whitewashed farmhouses.
