You can pick up some nice silk souvenirs for your friends and relatives from Ganapathi Silk or the Vardha Silks, or other authentic silk stores. After the tour you will be driven back to Mahabalipuram. Afternoon, proceed for a half day tour of Mahabalipuram – a place known as 'city of the seven pagodas'. The Government Museum lies in the heart of Bharathidasansan town near the super bazaar of Trichy. The major attraction of this museum is the sculptures of Mahavira, Gautam Buddha, Lord Vishnu and many more. Return to the Tanjore. Afternoon, proceed for tour of Tanjore visiting Brihadeshwar temple or the Big temple is the prime attraction of Tanjore. Brihadeshwar temple was built in the early 11th century by Rajaraja Chola I. The temple is built in Dravidian style of architecture in granite. Thanjavur Art Gallery, situated within the Thanjavur Royal Palace, is one of the main attractions of Thanjavur town. Thanjavur Art Gallery, which is housed in the Nayak Hall of the place, has an extensive collection of stone and bronze statues and idols belonging to the Chola period. Thanjavur Royal Palace situated within the Vijaynagara Fort complex, was the residence of the Nayak Kings of Thanjavur. Afternoon proceed to visit the Thirumalai Mahal, a palace constructed in Indo-Saracenic style, with its set of 22 musical pillars, carved out of a single block of granite, emitting musical notes, when tapped. Visit the Tamukkam Palace, a 17th century multi-pillared and arched palace of Queen Rani Mangammal. Built to accommodate such regal entertainment as elephant fights, Tamukkam was taken over by the British, used as a courthouse and collector’s office. In 1955 it was converted into the Gandhi Museum. Evening, participate in an elaborate Night Ceremony at Meenakshi temple for an hour, an enchanting ceremony of temple bells echoing within the 4 walls of the temples. The Dutch substantially renovated it after 1663. Hence it is also called the Dutch Palace. Visit, the St. Francis Church, India's oldest European- built church. Vasco de Gama, the first European to reach India by sailing around Africa, died in Cochin in 1524 and was buried here for 14 years before his remains were transferred to Lisbon. His tombstone still stands. Also visit the Chinese Fishing Nets, showing the traditional methods of sea fishing and the spice markets, a rich-trading center during the medieval times.
