Fly to Dibrughar the district headquarters situated at the head of the Brahmaputra Valley bounded on the north and northwest by the Brahmaputra River. It is the gateway into the rich and varied land and cultures of Nagaland, which is a fair challenger to “unrivaled” Assam. Dibrugarh district boasts of the highest amount of tea produced in India and there are several tea gardens dating back to the British era. BLD

(February departures only) Spend the day participating in the Reh festival. Festivals form an essential aspect of the socio-cultural life of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. Since agriculture is the mainstay of the population, the festivals celebrated by the people are closely connected with their occupation, thanking the gods' providence and prayers for bumper crops. Most festivals have common rituals such as sacrificing of animals, particularly the "Mithun", in the non-bodic tribes. Priests, assisted by some select male members of the community generally perform these rituals. The special attraction of the Reh Festival, celebrated by the Idu Mishmis, is the priest dance performed through the six-day festival, which comes to an end with great fanfare. BLD

Drive about 1 hour to Dambuk to view Bongal Yapgo, a stockades wall constructed of random rubble masonry. It was built in the 19th century by the 'Padams' during their war with the British. Continue to Pasighat and check into your hotel. After lunch enjoy a tour of Arunachal’s oldest town, founded in 1911 AD as a gateway between Abor Hills and the area further north. Originally the area was inhabited by Mishing people who were forced to shift to Assam plain due to incessant raids by the hill people. Currently it is predominantly inhabited by the Minyong Adi people who are known for their colorful Ponung dance and war dance called Taapu. BLD

Drive about 5 hours to Along located at an altitude of 1000 ft. stopping in local tribal villages on the way. Along is the headquarters of the west Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh. Visit the hanging bridge on the Siang River made of cane and bamboo. This bridge is the connection for the hill tribes to the mainland. BLD

After breakfast drive 8 hours to Daporijo, the headquarters of the Upper Subansri district stopping in villages along the way. Arrive in Daporijo, inhabited by Tagin and Gallong tribes known for their traditional weaving techniques. BLD

Travel 8 ½ hours through lush forested hillsides and past tribal settlements to Ziro, the headquarters of the Lower Subansiri district. Situated in the heart of the Apa Tani Valley, at an altitude of 5157 ft. Ziro is one of the most beautiful hill stations in Arunachal Pradesh, fringed by lofty mountains. Ziro was a World War II airbase for US and British Forces flying the Hump into China (the famous Flying Tigers) as well as air support for the battle of Kohima and the retake of Burma from the invading Japanese Forces in 1944. Ziro is a small picturesque destination with Pine and Bamboo groves, villages, a craft centre and Tarin Fish Farm. Though remote, it is recognizably a 20th century city. Visit a nearby village that is a representation of what medieval times would have been like in Asia. It is a collection of a few dozen grey houses, built from bamboo and roofed by palm leaves. Some of the houses have one or more constructions lashed to their porches that resemble giant wooden television aerials, which are in fact, totems denoting the birth of a male child to the household. After breakfast drive 7 ½ -hour to Tezpur. Situated on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, Tezpur is a beautiful and multifaceted city steeped in mythology and history. The city abounds in archaeological sites, hills, lakes and gardens. BLD

Early this morning drive for 4 hours Guwahati and fly to Calcutta. The rest of the day is free for you to explore on your own. BLD

Today tour this legendary city of joy and hope. Drive past Fort William, Victoria Memorial, the famous Calcutta Race Course, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Birla Planetarium and the Nehru Children’s Museum. Chowringhee once a jungle path leading to the Kali Temple and the Esplanade symbolize Calcutta’s past grandeur. Also view Raj Bhawan, the Assembly House, John’s Church and the present General Post Office. Evening free to browse through New Market, visit the teaming Howrah railway station or enjoy sunset over the Hoogli River. Later transfer to the airport and continue on to your next destination. B
